Exploring our Local Habitats

Next term we will be learning about Habitats and some of the animals that live there. In my role as a Year 2 Teacher, Junior Literacy Lead and Apple Coach I will be supporting staff in a number of ways to focus in on sentence structure and one aspect of composition from Phase 1 to 2 of our new curriculum. One way to support staff and student learning is through a digital book format.

Our learning will also be driven through Creative Exploration where I will teach students to delve into these aspects in digitally creative ways, including investigating the newly updated indigenous Apple Maps!

In our staff digital book I have added in our school pepeha gifted by Rangitāne Iwi that links us to our special awa (Manawatū River) and maunga (mountain, Ruahine and Tararua Ranges) to bring a different Te Ao Māori connected perspective to the concept of habitats, living creatures and whenua (land.)

Great work, Bexreflects! What a fantastic way for students to document their outside learning experience and the natural world around them! 🙌
