Magic move: Creative storytelling with a twist

As part of our storytelling and digital creativity focus, I shared the traditional Māori story How the Kiwi Lost Its Wings to my Year 2 and 3 learners. Students were challenged to retell part of the story using Keynote’s Magic Move transition in a purposeful and creative way.

Magic Move brought their retellings to life by animating the shift between two key moments of the story: from the unhealthy forest, where insects and bugs were harming the trees, to a healthy forest, where the kiwi is on the ground eating the insects and helping the forest thrive.

This activity deepened students’ understanding of the story while extending their Keynote skills through purposeful animation. It was a rich opportunity to blend literacy, digital fluency, and cultural storytelling—empowering learners to make meaningful choices in how they shared their thinking.

Emma - Super way to use Magic Move for storytelling! Also love the effect of putting shapes over actual photos. Nice job and inventive idea!
